| Public speaking
is a common source of stress for most people.
Many of us would like to avoid this problem entirely,
but this is not always possible.
Whether we work alone or with a large number of
people, eventually we will need to speak to groups,
i.e. in public, to get certain tasks accomplished.
And if we want to be leaders or achieve anything
meaningful in our lives, we will often need to
speak to groups, large and small, to be successful.
The truth about public speaking, however, is that
IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE STRESSFUL! If you correctly
understand the hidden causes of public speaking
stress, and if you keep just a few key principles
in mind, speaking in public will soon become an
invigorating and satisfying experience for you.
For people like us, who are in the field of Education,
it is very essential and beneficial to have a
clear idea about the art of public speaking. Every
day we address people of different ages and sensitivities.
We address our students, the principals, teaching
staff and parent bodies of the institutions where
we teach, our superiors and subordinates in the
office environment We need to be very precise
in our way of presenting ourselves. The principals
I am discussing below, will be very helpful for
our lecturers when they are dealing with students
as well as school management.

Key Principles
Principle 1
Speaking in Public is NOT Inherently Stressful
Most of us believe that parts of life are inherently
stressful. In fact, most of us have been taught
to believe that life as a whole is very stressful!
To deal with any type of stress effectively, you
first must understand that life itself, including
public speaking, is NOT inherently stressful.
Principle 2
You DO NOT Have to
be Brilliant or Perfect to Succeed.
Principle 3
All You Need is Two or Three Main POINTS.
Principle 4
You also
Need a PURPOSE That is Right for the Task.
Principle 5
The Best Way to Succeed is NOT to consider Yourself
a Public Speaker!
Principle 6
HUMILITY and HUMOUR Can Go a Long Way.
Principle 7
When You Speak in Public, NOTHING "BAD"
Can Ever Happen!
Principle 8
You DO NOT Have to CONTROL the Behavior of Your
AUDIRENCE.
Principle 9
Your Audience Truly
WANTS You to Succeed.
Principle 10
In General, the More
You Prepare, the Worse You Will Do.
That's all there is to it. Just keep the aforesaid
ten principles in mind, and of course, you will
need to practice. It's extremely easy to forget
the ten key principles. No matter how often you
review them, you will instinctively fall back
into your old stress-producing patterns. One has
to make a conscious effort to overcome this pattern.
And this only comes by having the confidence in
yourself, taking the FIRST STEP and going ahead
and speaking to a group you wish to address. After
the first attempt, you yourself will realize that
it is not as disastourous as you initially thought
it would be!!!!!!!!
So here’s wishing each one success in their
PUBLIC SPEAKING endeavours!!
