Computer is an electronic device that performs
calculations and processes information. It can handle vast amounts
of facts and figures and solve complicated problems at incredibly
high speeds. The fastest computers are able to process millions
of pieces of information in seconds.
Computers can process any kind of information from book titles and
customer account number to chemical formulas and words from ancient
Greek text.
Computers have become a part of our day to day life and it has become
impossible to escape contact from computers. It is essential for
every person today to know about computer. Any task that can be
carried out systematically, using a precise step by step method
can be performed by a computer.
Computers are now affecting every step of human activity and bringing
about many changes in industries, government, education, medicine,
scientific research, law, social science and even in the world of
art and music.
Business organizations were the major areas of computerization.
Today most large and medium sized companies are almost totally dependent
on their computers for administrative functions. In industry production
may be planned, co-ordination of ordinate and controlled with the
aid of computer. The computer may also be used to direct the operation
of individual machine and also to operate assembly machines which
piece together parts of equipment. In industries like chemical and
oil refining, the computer can be used to monitor and regulate total
processes. They can also be used to control air-conditioning and
heating systems in modern multi-story buildings. Businesses depend
on computers to handle all kinds of accounting and book keeping
jobs. Most large companies have computer to calculate their employees'
wages and print pay roll checks. Banks use computers to record the
amount of money deposited or withdrawn by customers.
Many super markets have a computerized checkout system, which animates
the need to ring up the price of each item. Numerous factories use
computers to control machines that make products. A computer turns
the machines on and off and adjusts their operations when necessary.
In most major industries, computers help executives make important
decisions. For example oil companies use computer analyses of economic
and geological data to select drilling sites where petroleum is
most likely to be recovered at lowest cost. An automakers decision
to expand the production of a certain model of car may hinge on
a computer analysis of consumer demands and other market conditions.
Computers have now become a part and parcel of life.
E-business is one of the easier ways of business. This is also known
as electronic business. E-business is done via the Internet. E-business
is re-writing relationships between suppliers’ and customers.
Computers are playing an important role even in the world of sports
& entertainment Animation is used to develop cartoon films.

Jurassic Park’s Dinosaurs and Aladdin are results of superb
graphics and animation produced by computers.
