EXPERIENCE OF THE FAST BUDDING IT
INDUSTRY
The STD X students
of CUMBALLA HILL HIGH SCHOOL were taken on a visit to an IT based
company to gain first hand information about the programming logic
which they have in their curriculum. The IT Visit was arranged
by ASCII (ADVANCED SCHOOL OF COMPUTER INFORMATION, INDIA, PVT.
LTD.) on Thursday the 8th September 2005.
The students were taken to ZEDO INDIA PVT. LTD.
Located at Andheri (East). ZEDO is a technology company that offers
ad serving solution to various top websites. The Company has its
head office at SAN FRANCISCO, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and has
only one branch in INDIA. They were transported by bus from the
school to the location and back. The students were accompanied
by the staff of ASCII and also the school staff. Twenty seven
students participated enthusiastically in this visit and took
full advantage of the opportunity provided to them. The students
were divided into three groups and four sessions were taken for
each group comprising of approximately thirty minutes.
The first session comprised of E-COMMERCE. The
students were explained what is e-commerce, how various transactions
can be carried out through this electronic media, its advantages,
how the information passed during trading can be misused, the
security measures for the same. They were also allowed to visit
some trading sites like E-bay. In the next session the students
were given a brief introduction to “What is Software?”
- the different languages, how the languages mostly used today
to perform complicated tasks were developed from scrap, the role
of interpreters, compilers, translators etc. The various stages
involved in developing new software and the importance of each
stage was also covered in this session. The third session contained
of valuable information relating to what is database, the simple
database management programs and what is RDBMS. The last and the
concluding session was related to the marketing of these softwares.
In this session the students were told about the different target
groups for various applications, customer protection, consumer
satisfaction which is very much essential for any industry in
today’s competitive market.
In short the students were provided a complete
insight into the various parts dealt by a software industry. The
students were also given time after each session to clarify any
doubts regarding the topics and they were also introduced to the
different departments and shown their working and how these departments
coordinate with each other. They were also provided refreshments
by the company.
The students returned back to school by 3.00 p.m.
with their interest in the software field aroused. For some students
it was a career setting option. It was indeed a very knowledgeable
and exciting experience.
